This weekend, we travelled to South Wales, more specifically, to the Rheola Grounds where this years Touratech Travel Event took place.
We headed to Wales on Friday after work. Due to multiple 50mph average speed areas on the M4, it took us a bit longer than expected to reach our B&B. We know… we should have camped, but when you are organising rides for people you really want to be fresh and sleeping in a proper bed helps!
We stayed at The Hub, in Abercraf. I have to admit, I had seen this little B&B many times but had never stayed there before. I highly recommend it! We got a really nice, big room on the ground floor, which is great when you travel on a bike with all the gear. It meant we didn’t have to keep going up and down stairs to get stuff off the bikes and we could keep the bikes just by the room’s door.
On Saturday, we headed to The Rheola Grounds for the Travel Event. There was a great atmosphere in the morning, with plenty of bikes coming in, people test riding KTMs and others waiting for the road and off road rides to start. Natalia and I setup our bikes and high-vis so people could see us.
With our first ride starting at 10.30 am, we gathered everyone for our pre-ride briefing. We wanted to ensure that everyone was aware of the drop-off system and had an idea of how the ride was going to work. Once we were ready, we set off!
The morning ride took us north through the Brecon Beacons and back south through the famous A4069, a road that has been featured on many TV programs, including Top Gear. You can preview the route below, but to download it and save it, visit our MyRoute-App group where you can access all the routes we create and share.
In the afternoon ride, we rode a 52 mile loop around some of the best roads in the Brecon Beacons.
We were lucky that other than a very punctual downpour, we had some spectacular weather, which showed off the Welsh roads in all their glory.
After the rides, we stayed and grabbed ourselves a waffle and enjoyed looking at some people playing with the bikes in one of the skills arenas. I wish I was capable of doing the things they were doing!
We want to thank everyone that joined us on the rides. We hope you all had fun and hope you join us again for another ride at some point!
