We all get to a point in our lives when we have to make a decision… Should I upgrade my bike to the newest model? Is it worth it? I had been the proud owner of my trusty BMW R1200GS Adventure Rallye for two years and the PCP was due to end. I loved my R1200GSA and it had all the equipment you can add to it; TFT, SOS, ESA etc. so there was no real reason for me to change it, aside from the PCP coming to an end. Thing is, I love new toys and in the end, I choose to upgrade my R1200GS Adventure to the new 1250. After 6 months and over 10,000 miles, this is what I can tell you about the decision.
What are the real differences between these two bikes?
There really aren’t many at all. You literally gain 9 bhp, have a bike with an upgraded engine and with that, a few extra kgs added to the bike. What does this mean in practice? Well, the BMW R1250GSA does feel slightly smoother and more progressive through out the whole range, but I can’t feel or notice any other changes. They are literally the same bike, in different colours. A consideration I had when changing model, was that the R1250GS had been out for over a year, so I considered it had been properly tested already and people weren’t finding any noteworthy faults.
Is it worth the change? Let me be honest, if you are happy with your 1200, stay with it! It rides beautifully and I loved it. On the other hand, if you are like me and like new toys, go for it, give yourself an early birthday present and upgrade to the new BMW R1250GS. Click here to check some great deals Lind now…
